The windscreen brackets on my Roadster have a very shiny grey lacquered appearance. I had no reason to think this wasn't standard, but over the last five years, every Roadster I've examined has had dull flat grey A posts. I began to suspect that mine had been 'refinished' and last night I had a much closer look. They have been carefully masked and blown over on the car with some sort of acrylic lacquer. The give-away is under the bottom windscreen rubber, where the finish is dull and grey. So there you have it. Another riddle solved.

Not done under my ownership Dave and the previous owner did not declare it as an "improvement" , the first owner I believe was as a Dealer Demonstrator so it may have been a factory finish.

I wonder if Gill's did it then. It's a very hard lacquer, and I've never seen another like it............

Dave, my roadster mk 1 had (has....ish) the glossy paint laquer.shiny grey.
By the time the car was a year old it was all coming off with white corrosion under it....aluminium I suppose. The factory sent me a new pair (also painted) under warranty and I have them in a drawer ready to fit if I have a new windscreen, or ready for the new owner should I sell the car one day.
My guess is that the factory got fed up with the problem and just stopped painting them.

Dave , I must get over to see the Red Roadster in my shiny new Red VW :-) I'm sure it's in excellent condition.

It's made me think....I must go and dig out my replacements and see if they are corroding merrily in dry storage.....

They gave up on Morgans a while ago. As Andy said, my Roadster was their demo and they couldn't shift it. It appeared in Miscellany for months, it's part of the history file.
I contacted them in 2008 to ask if they had any documentation from the factory order stage but they didn't have the decency to reply.
