Anybody had Paint Shield or other paint protection system applied?

Despite only driving a couple of thousand miles, I have had to apply several touch ups (liked warts on a model) and had bad experiences with bird c**p and scratches.

I had a car fitted with a clear plastic 3M shield once. Didn't like it.

The edges are vulnerable to collecting dust and dirt. Also you're waxing and polishing plastic rather than metal. I figured it would be better to have the bonnet resprayed every 3 years rather than use it.

But some people love it. smile

I personally haven't had it done to my Corvette, but I know a number of other Corvette owners who swear by 3M's "Clear Bra" paint protection material. I plan on using it on my '66 +4 when I get far enough along on the rebuild to have a need for it.

My 4/4 Sport is being done on Thursday by RPM. Over the last couple of weeks I have spoken with several other owners who swear by it.

Figure I'll also mention I'm as much keen on using it on the '66 as a protective layer between the paint and the leather strap on the bonnet than anything else.

I have one of the "plastic skin" installations on the Aero S2 that I bought some three years ago. I am told it was put on pretty much from new.

It has done the job well. There are no marks on the paint and I have heard some clanks which would have been chips otherwise.

It is on the lower front area (bumper?) the front face of the rear wings, running boards (several scuffs which can be polished off) and around the door handles.

The car is now on 24k miles and a good few years old (2005) and it is not peeling or discolouring. You would be hard pressed to notice it when you look generally.

I would seriously consider getting it again if I was to purchase a new Morgan. On my Mercedes the local roads have resulted in quite a few chips in the 2 years I have had it. It has the MB premium paint protector applied to it and this has made no difference.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

the AeroMax in Perth has this fitted, you have to be almost touching the car to see it, and I think it has already endured a WA summer and looks non the worse for wear.
If I had a new paint job, then I think it would be a reasonable investment wine

I bought some 3M film and fitted it myself. Not too difficult if you are patient. Very easy to remove with a hairdryer and renew if necessary.

Highly recommended.
