I know it sounds wrong to use ATF but the LT77 gearbox is that used on the early Land Rover Discovery and it has a small plastic impler type pump. This pump used to break if heavier oils were used. When I first got my plus 4 I checked this out with the local LR main dealer. The later R380 box requires LR MTF. But Castrol has served well so be it.

It's worth looking to see if the clevis pin that links the clutch pedal to the master cylinder pushrod is worn. At 200k, there's a fair chance that the clevis pin is worn and if so the clutch mechanism will be less effective. If worn, the clevis pin will look like the crankshaft of a singlke cylinder engine.
By the way and this is irrelevant to sorting out your immediate problem, personally I wouldn't use ATF oil in an LT77 gearbox. I've used Castrol fully synthetic for the last 20 years on my Plus 8 and that has included racing with a 285bhp 3.9. You can undertake your own research using google. +1  Castrol fully synthetic in gearbox

If it is a 16 the rubber mounting or the spring ball on the lever could be the problem read gomog

John yes you are 100% correct it got decidely worse two days ago and yes we are awaiting the arrival of new rubber mountings etc. We are told by Morgan Brussels that the initial warning signs are difficulty with second and fifth gear which we had. By the following day then extreme vibration. Something else to add to the file.

A couple of contributors have said that they use Castrol fully synthetic in the LT77 gearbox instead of ATF as per Land Rover. I put in Castrol ATF. What exactly was the Castrol fully synthetic used - I would like to compare the specifications. Am I the only one in the country without a dehumidifier!

I'm pleased to hear that you appear to have the problem sorted.
Regarding Rainbowj's query on Castrol synthetic gearbox oil, I used Castrol Syntrans in the late 1980's on the advice of a gearbox rebuild specialist. Castrol Syntrans was superseded by Castrol TAF-X (API GL4) and this appears to have been superseded by Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90. If in doubt, refer to Castrol's website and lookup oils for Range Rover or Land Rover Discovery manual gearbox.
Personnaly, I have never and would never put ATF oil in an LT77 or R380 gearbox.

Thank you David for the info on the oils. I was worried about the gearbox on the plus4 as soon as I realised it was the LT77 and the trouble they had with the early Discoverys. Having dug a bit deeper since your post I find that Ashcroft Transmissions and my original Morgan Handbook recommend ATF Dextron 2 or 3 for this box and MTF94 for the R380 box (Which is exactly what I have). At least I don't now feel the urgency to drain the Morgan box and refil.
