I have an early M3W and have asked the local agent to find out if this available, after comments in other threads about a remap.
Coincidently he is visiting the factory more or less as we speak/type so i trust he will get something.
I started down this track more to do with engine check light flashing on overrun without triggering a fault code. However i have noted "pinking?" under load at higher revs too. Initially thought it was just part of the cacophany of noise to be expected!

Incidently, it appears possible to read fault codes from the engine VFI (ECU) unit by executing a sequence of turning ign on off etc , the Check light will then flash out fault .
I tried this and got a code which doesnt appear to exist !!ie #27 The instructions on this are on the S&S website in the Pro Tune Manual

Off to the factory on Friday for the latest engine map - it was suggested by the service dept that this will cure the pinking - hopefully may help with poor hot starting

Wasn't looking forward to the drive up as apparently it's going to pour down on Friday but as my car has just blown a rocker cover seal it's going on the trailer !

I'm down at the factory next Wednesday for first service, a 5.00am start from Leeds, I will mention the pinking and hopefully they will update my map as well.

So, in short, your 3W has pinking, poor hot starting and blew a rocker cover seal, and in need of a newer engine map. eek

How many miles have yours run?

Hi marc
I have managed to find a DIY way of reading the VFI (ECU).
It provides live read outs of lots of engine parameters ( most i dont understand!) Data overload but doesnt really show any issues. I now have, though, a record of where its at now as reference
My dealer has aquired the new map and i hopefully will be able to upload soonish. Let us know how you get on at factory
On the rocker cover gasket front, I have tightened the bolts a few times as they seem to ease off easily. Regular "loose bits" hunts are part of the rigours of ownership?

I also find i neglect the battery water levels as its kind of hidden away

Hi - 3,250 miles now - the oil leak would be an easy fix with a new seal but may as well get it repaired under warranty, it was surprising how much came out and right above the exhaust downpipe, you can see a bit of the seal sticking out - will nip up the bolts in future if needed.

Will let you know how I get on with the map

Where is the OBD plug ?

Hi

Things have moved quickly! I got the new map e-mailed to me this afternoon and i uploaded it when i got home. Took just a couple of minutes to do it. Went for a wee ride and hey presto underload "pinking" has gone !! success

The OBD plug is under the fuses behind a small plate held by two small screws. It is a mini USB socket (like a lot of cell phones)
