took the M3W for a run this morning . what 1st appeared to be small droplets of water on the drivers wind screen was oil. could not find a leak any where and after wipping it off about 3 times it never came back after about a 60 mile run.

A mtstry wrapped in an enigma indeed. Did the effect stop when you overtook that smoky old tractor?

I have the same phenomena on the passenger side and quite a lot of oil along the bonnet, windscreen and the whole side.

Reason:
The right cylinderheadgasket is not 100% "dense".
The hotter the outside temperature is the more oil is on the M3W.

At the first service the garage used 20W60 (a bit thicker) oil to solve the problem. It didn´t really work out.
Less oil was leaking but still it was leaking.

So next time they will check that out and maybe change the gasket.
Till then I´m always cleaning the right side after every ride.

A bit like a WW1 fighter then.....they always were covered in oil from the engine! It was Castor oil mind in those days...the pilots were never constipated!

The LTOW JAP has exposed rocker gear, needs oiling often, so as a secondary measure, oils the drivers quite well too!

I don't think I'd be constipated if I we're flying over trenches in a plane made of wood, sting and fabric while being shot at.

I seem to have suffered the same mystery oil leak as Indian Bob tonight, Small droplets on the drivers screen and cowl which started to appear whilst on the Motorway to Blackpool Illuminations.
This is where I also got my first taste of the engine running in 'skip mode'. Although it was a fun new experience driving the M3W through the lights I was glad to escape the crawl and get some cool air flowing past the engine.

Had a look at the engine and suspension when I arrived home and it looked more likely to grease originating from a top suspension bush rather than oil from the engine. Will have a closer look tomorrow.

Still running in (now at 750miles), but I think the ECU has just released a few more RPM

I've had a closer look for the source of the oil leak that occurred last night. It looks like it either came from the exhaust manifold fixing, or the cylinder head gasket. Look at the pics and see what you think.

The oil came out on our journey up the M6 to Blackpool. I got some oil spots on my sunglasses. I swapped these for my regular glasses before getting to Blackpool, and those remained clean.

I will report this strange fault at 1000 mile service.

Have you tried re torquing the head bolts and exhaust flange bolts? Seems like a likely area needing re torquing after the break in period.
