I have been looking at more pics of the new Land Rover "defender", and I must say, that although it's hideous in this street/ricer guiser, I imagine it will be sort of okay if it had proper suspension travel, higher tyre sides in relation to the diameter (i.e. real off-road tyres), and if the ricer details where toned down a bit (the extra flared wheel arches, the chrome front details etc).
In other words, make it a real offroader again and I might be convinced this will act as the heir to the mighty Defender we know.
I went to the Land Rover site yesterday to look at a 2 year old Defender given all you lot chattering on about them all the time. It gave me a good laugh.
You can buy a new Defender 2.2XS for less than you can add to a Range Rover Sport in extras without too much trouble.
The extras list on a new defender on the other hand includes a real Single CD player and the possibility of an iPod plug in for it. Given the huge cost of the RRS audio upgrades and what effect each of these will have in the NVH of the cab I had to giggle.
The infinte range of shades of silver/grey/black seems to be missing. The range of costly 32" alloy wheels has also gone.
Is this the same company ?
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
Thoroughly agree Giles. Unfortunately a lot of it is down to legislation, much of it from EU... Where's my Wellies?? Ah, in the back of the 90 of course!!
It must be very dirty in the back of your Defender if you need wellies in there Graham. Have you not hosed it out recently ?

Actually it's the front that is worse... But carrying them is very handy - never know when that parking area is going to turn from a nice grass field / orchard into a quagmire (although we did last year - never left the quagmire state ).
