Looks like the bottom pulley to me. Look at the shape and colour of the head protruding through the casing. That looks like one of the top ones to me. I wouldn't request anything, I'd DEMAND an new engine. You know they have plenty of them ready to go in the factory. Hear, hear!

Looks like the bottom pulley to me. In my opinion you are unlikely to get a replacement engine as it's a simple fix given a new casing/pulley/nut. That's going to depend upon whether the cam belt stayed in one piece and didn't slip. There also doesn't look to be a lot of room for that top pulley to get down to the bottom of the case so who knows what damage it's done on the way. I'd be in the new engine camp myself.

It should be a straight warranty claim by MMC to S&S I would think. Not sure why a new engine is required unless other damage has been done.

There is a lot of parts bouncing around and moving up and down when that Motor is running, who knows what damage has been done that might only show up long term. 13months later and 1 month outside of warranty, then something starts to rattle or wear new Engine

Doesn't look like top pulley, more like crank pulley that drives the three camsafts, nut has dropped off and pulley has worked its way along the nose of the crank and pushed through the casing, just whip the front cover off and fill hole with isopon, pop the nut back on with some loctite, refit casing and you are mobile again until MMC sort a permanent repair

I'm not really familiar with Motorcycle engines, or the S&S in particular...but are they "interference" engines? i.e. when the timing belt fails do the valves and pistons collide in catastrophe?
Really sorry about you bad luck MrPB...but is sounds like the car still runs, correct? That seems strange if so.

I would go along with Easter on this, it is not in a "wet" area, it was running OK when the damage was noticed so the cam belt was still in place with no valve or drive train damage. It looks like the nut has undone and damaged the case. Torque it up and lock it, check the drive belt condition, temp repair the cover and use it until the replacement cover arrives. Fairly certain it's not as bad as it looks, not an engine change but a competant S&S engineer will know. I assume a trained Morgan dealer will know for sure?
