They are difficult indeed near impossible with the factory supplied tool and hammer, which are useless. I'm sure the Mulfab tool will be a revelation, however it's too big to take in the car, I think. I have a tool from MWS who supply the wheels, it's a brass two eared tool that fits properly and I use a bigger Thor nylon hammer to whack it. It's easy to carry these in the car.

Getting them off is more difficult than putting them on. When putting on, you don't need to tighten hard because the rotational motion of the car tightens the further.

Some people like two eared spinners but you need yet another tool for these!

Thanks for the information Nigel. Part of the problem is that the supplied spanner doesn't fit too well. I'll put one of those on order.

OK, a few random thoughts on my experience

Use copperslip on the splines and threads when the wheels are off.

Use the correct torque rating and a proper torque wrench to torque them up (unless you have years of experience of 'feeling' how tight you should do them up.

Buy the Ledgerwoods socket. It's expensive, but it's the best.

When undoing the wheels you need to 'shock' the nuts with the hammer and spanner. Just trying to undo them with the right sized long spanner or Ledgerwoods socket is not the way. A few hard hits with the hammer helps to release them.

Buy a breaker bar to go with the Ledgerwoods socket.

That's my experience - my system now works.

BUT apply with a brush or you will get nasty cuts!
