I was aware that the thick wooden spacers were discontinued at some point, maybe 2008. Then Clipper mentioned that he preferred a low position and had the spacers taken from his new car. So his new Morgan may have had spacers added.

Anyway, here are the measurements:
Here is my Roadster with a straight edge across the tunnel and door seal. Note there is no significant gap to the seat base.


And here's Bumble with no spacers:
The gap is a couple of inches!!!!!!!

That's quite a difference.

I'm not sure I'd like to have spacers....I'm not tall by any stretch of the imagination but I'd not like to sit any higher.

Incidentally Dave, have you compared windscreen heights between the Roadster and the 4/4? Looking around the showroom at BHM yesterday I started comparing screen heights.....well, beats counting louvres! Graham's 4/4 and a Plus8 had lower screens than a new Roadster and a Plus4 Supersport. My Roadster and my old broken screen off my 4/4 are the same height.

Just a thought and I could be wrong but here goes

The wooden blocks are tapered and lift the from of the seat up - is this perhaps to create "anti submarining" ie so you don't slip under the seat-belt in the event of a collision ?

My 2005 roadster came with wooden spacers. I took them out as my eyeline was at the top of the screen. It wasn't easy to refit the seats without the wooden runners though...some bolts stick out and also I think the seat doesn't go quite as far back now as the seat can't ride over the front end of the rear suspension. My point is (I'm getting there slowly) that mmc must have changed the seat frame when they stopped using wooden runners....so Dave I'm afraid it's up to you to take a seat out of each of your TWO Morgans and show us the pictures...........

Dave can you be sure the height of the transmission tunnel, and of the lower door frame, relative to the floor is the same in both cars? If not the comparison may not be accurate. Also the depth of the seat frames and squabs may differ. When I had my new seats made by Shaun at Allon Whites, I wanted a slightly lower seating position and asked about removing or planing down the wooden strips. He advised against that and instead made the seat squabs slightly less deep. There are so many potential variables here, and we know how Morgans differ from car to car even next to each other in the factory!

I also replaced the original seat cushion foam with memory foam so I sink a bit lower into it.......

When I went for a test drive in the new car, I was shocked at the difference. It felt like I was sat on it rather then in it.

Seats were different, so I assumed this was the cause - it would have been a deal breaker.

Upon returning to the garage, the mechanic inspected the seat and confirmed that wooden spaces were fitted - since removed and all is well.

It felt horrible, can't believe anyone would choose a raised seat, but perhaps it's just what I was used to.

I'm quite interested in this thread, having only ever sat in 4 seaters I had never considered the seat height, but I had begun to notice the steering wheel is relatively low. So out comes the ruler ! My seats are around an inch higher than the sills, the spacers themselves are about 3" high. On the 4 seater there is probably no other option but to have the seat raised, otherwise rear passengers would have nowhere to put their feet. Incidentally, the distance from the scuttle to the top of the windscreen is 12". I guess the driving position is a little 'exposed', but on the other hand my wife hasn't moaned about not being able to see out, and entry and exit are probably a little bit easier...
