Just experienced a complete fracture of the drivers side silencer at approx 3000 mls I think the cause of the fracture might be too much penetration on the weld around the heat shield lug. Also I think the support brackets on the silencer should be slotted to allow for more lateral adjustment of bobbins during installation. Alignment with the brackets on the body is understandably not perfect and therefore the bobbins are under constant sheer stress even at rest. Owned the moggie for only three weeks and have put nearly 2k on the clock. Loving nearly every minute. However I am a little frustrated that there appears no official recognition of design faults and that this forum is the only source of warranty information. I bought the vehicle privately, however I must say that Richard Thorne Classic Cars (my local Morgan dealer)have been extremely helpful regards this and regulator issues. Has anyone else experienced this failure. Will try and work out how to attach photo This might work http://twitter.com/loewenthalm/status/379265357040861184/photo/1

Regardless of your 'route of purchase' your warranty should have been transferred with still time to run, so Richard Thorne should be able to get you sorted FOC within it. Not being a Trike Owner I have not seen the like of this before

As an ex Bonneville owner that was a typical failure due to vibration.

Yep, I discovered one of my exhaust bobbins broken the other day, due to the brackets not being aligned, the bobbin was effectively pulling the 'silencer' down and into position, and gave up the unequal struggle. I replaced it with what I hope is a stronger bobbin and spaced it accordingly, so that there was no strain on it, a job that the assembler should have done in the factory.
I agree that some form of factory recognition and dissemination of information of known faults would be reassuring, as it is, we just blunder from one pretty serious fault to another. Maybe that is something that Simon or Andy could liaise with the factory about? I appreciate the danger of litigation if an admission is made, but I think that is something that the factory will have to take a view on, vis a vis keeping owners happy and in the picture - or have they? Maybe that is why there is no communication?

Bobbins were nearly sheared when purchased and I did same as you but using cable grommets from heavy electrical connectors and some penny washers. Bobbins were replaced under warranty but of course failed again. My repair was better than the factory fit in compression but did not give any shear protection. Thinking of polyurethane bobbins from eBay. I do wonder if the new Brooklands style pipes have a fix built in?
I love the 3W. it not just a mode of transport its a social phenomenon More so than perhaps even Morgan realise. However as an engineer I have been suprised by some elements of build quality. Looking forward to fettling these snags away.
