Same here. I am 46 now and on my first Morgan.

But I dreamed of getting a Morgan in my 20's and even went on the waiting list. 5 years later Derek Day, then Sales Manager, wrote to me and said I was now near the top of the list and what did I want? A Plus 8 of course, but by then I was married with kids on the horizon and little spare income so I dropped out. A typical story I think.

I think there are plenty of younger people who would love to own a Morgan but finances rule it out. The lack of a boot also makes it impractical as an only car and this also tends to rule out younger cash strapped buyers.

Many of you have said that young people do not know how to control the oil level in the car.
Do you think that owning a Morgan you have to enjoy the mechanics?
Someone who does not enjoy the mechanics, would you recommend that I buy a Morgan?

Yes - I am mechanically illiterate and still love Morgans for their style, heritage and the way they drive and sound. It helps to understand mechanics but its not essential - that's what Morgan service agents are for.

No, you do not have to enjoy mechanics to run a Morgan. It does help. With the newer Morgans, all that needs to be done is a regular greasing of the front suspension (2 nipples each side) every 250-500miles, or say once a month. You could choose to ignore doing this, but expect the king pins to need to be renewed at about 12000 to 15000 miles. Just factor that into your running costs.
There is no reason why you could not arrange for your local car service station to grease the front suspension regularly for you for a small change. Other than an occasional tightening of fitting, that is it, anything more serious take it to a dealer for repair.

In truth you can get involved as much or as little with the mechanics as you like. Go for it and be happy.

I grease anywhere between 1500 and 2000 miles. It does'nt seem to have reduced the life of my kingpins as I'm still on the originals after 66000 miles.

I nearly bought my first Aero in 2003 (aged 40) however it was going to be my only car and used for business so I could not take the issues surrounding leaks etc. Loved it all the same, so did the wife who dis-liked every other car I considered.

In 2009 (46, age and IQ) I ordered a New Nissan GT-R 35 however the delay (19 months from order placed at 9.01 on the first day of release) meant I wanted something to tide me over providing fun so we bought the S2 which we have had since. It seems to have pretty much retained its value, costing a little but nothing like the GT-R would have. I cancelled the GT-R, it was boring after the Aero. The good lady even paid for a quarter of it, what more can you say.

Not finished quite yet though. Need to scratch that itch a little more. Big Five-O coming up soon. I need to grow old a little more disgracefully.

I think the young see travel differently, it is more about simple, trouble free, practical, fashionable, advertising, celebriddeeee endorsement cool. This is why retro like the Mini has done so well. Some of the charm without the effort. They don't seem to do effort in many cases.

A Morgan is not really like that. Less practical for certain. If I knew back then (aged 28 say) what I know now I would have had an Aero in a flash if it had existed. They don't realise what they are missing.


Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Jees I thought I was looking in the mirror there reading that, tried to order the GT (at46)(now 50) through a NISSAN worker who suggested he could get one in a couple of weeks with 25% discount, don't know who was the idiot, him for porking or me for believing him. TIT that's me of coarse.

looking at things now I just cant see anyway of ever getting rid of the Max, unless they made something even more crazy grin2
