The new Morgan Aero 8 4.8 brochure - while the imagery is excellent, it seems strange that someone chose to use the Aero 8 America to illustrate the new Aero 8 4.8.

While it may not be obvious to non-Morgan owners, you can clearly see the American flag on page 6 (it is present on a few of the shots but this is the most obvious) and surely this is sending a mixed message for a car that prides itself on heritage?

Add to that my personal dislike for the Aero America side vents and I find the 'new' brochure a little confusing.

While the format and photos are excellent, I wish the subject matter had been a real Aero 8 4.8; therefore, I hope the intention is to update the brochure in the near future now that production has commenced?

Would I be correct in saying that the side reflectors are also to homologate the car for the United States? Perhaps it would have been wise to Photoshop these and the flag out of the literature as both detract from the beauty of the Aero 8.

It's disappointing that they should have used an America to illustrate the new Aero 8 brochure, when their main market for the cars is UK/Europe. frown

Let's hope that they rectify this in the very near future, as those side-vents really are not in keeping with the rest of the car. I don't think that they are even popular in North America, as I've had a couple of emails from Morgan-cognoscenti there saying that they don't like them. shocked2

Apart from that major quibble, the photography is excellent and it is also interesting to note that MMC are now willing to quote performance figures for the Aero 8, presumably because there is now clear water between it and the Roadster; particularly on the acceleration figures. woohoo

Aero 8

0-62: 4.2
Top Speed: 170 mph

Roadster
0-62: 4.9
Top Speed: 134 mph

I did not realise until I spoke to Chris Lawrence that the Aero is speed limited at BMW´s request. Apparently unrestricted and with the right gearing over 200mph would be possible. woohoo

I wonder if this is part of the gentlemen’s agreement between most of the German manufacturers to limit their cars to 155mph? Perhaps the provision of the engine came with agreement to abide by this?

Phil - thats got to be theoretical top speed.
Once you bring air resistance into the equation it won't add up.

I've run my Aero several times at bruntingthorpe on the 2 mile straight through professionalyl calibrated laser traps to assess top speed. The official top speed for the (s1) car is 160, but even in tip top fettle with a tailwind, the car would barely manage 150mph through the laser traps - and thats hitting the main straight (not sideways) at around 70-80mph around the bottom bend, not from a standstill.

Of course at VMAX the Aero speedo reads 165mph - which looks fantastic, but it's certainly not true - 148-150mph depending on wind seemed to be the top end. (roof up) Roof down low 140's was the best.

The later cars, having a wider cross sectional area than the S1 and not significantly more power are likely to fare less well in terms of outright top speed than the S1 I would think...

Suggest Charles bugs BMW to let us test the latest car at Nardo to verify the claims!

what is it with the speedo on the series 1? it feels 10 to 15% over stated to the actual speed. I am sure someone will have calibrated this....

Weird that the company would do this? I mean who is looking after the marketing?

If I put the wrong product on the wrong page of the company website I'd be out of a job PDQ.

This kind of thing doesn't help sell Morgans (in fact it might put the interested off on closer inspection). Secondly - to those of us who know the company, this kind of thing is pretty concerning - if the marketing team don't know which model is which it's not exactly sending out the professional image we would expect to see...

Couldn’t agree more...just plain laziness, although at least they chose a right hand drive model!
