As you can see in my previous topic from August 24 "Bevel Box Oil" I try also new and better oil.
This Omega 690 is also sticky and should be the best available.
It made a small improvement but not enough to get rid of the noise.
If rolling downhill in neutral the whole system is more quiet.
But under certain loads the box is screaming like before.
Did now +4000 km with only a small noise improvement.

So they mounted a known noisy box into a car with some rubber cushioning and it was quiet.
If its a problem to some owners perhaps putting some high density rubber under the mounting flanges might be the answer.

If this is the right solution it would be great !
Hope MMC send the rubbers out to their dealers

Mounting the bevel gearbox directly to the chassis and putting it inside a "tin box" alongside your hip cannot be ideal for a quiet result. If you put it on rubber mounts the tensioning of the drive belt will be interesting. Not a matter of a simple fix at a guess but nice to know that Morgan are at least looking at a fix, even if it is a couple of years late. Just sticking rubber padding around it may help a bit I suppose. Not so bothered about the noise if it stays the same and keeps working.

I totally agree with planenut, the noise is part of the experience, as long as MMC says thats normal and it doesn't let go, I'm ok with it. Similar to a straight cut racing gearbox.

I can certainly see that rubber would help reduce the noise transmission, but if the box is noisy in the first place, that means that there is a problem, and as has been shown here, and elsewhere, problem boxes are letting go in a big way, so a quiet box will be quiet in the chassis, rubber or no rubber, and therefore, inherently reliable.

I don't know what specific oil is recommended by Morgan but I can tell you that we have had tremendous success with this specifically designed oil, Motul Gearbox, in Moto Guzzi gearboxes and bevel drives. Not only does it do an excellent job of lubrication but also reduces noise and wear, and makes for slicker gear changes. For many years it has been used and recommended by the Agostini dealership in Mandello.
