I think Toyota are top of the list with recalls  At least they admit the faults and put it right, unlike some manufacturers I know as I own one, and it's not Rosie!

My "daily driver", a Toyota Kluger (I say mine - read wife's) - faulty drivers window switch - seeming could be sticky. Seemed QA/QC gone made (I appreciate the brakes issue is more severe).

In the UK, Toyota had the largest number of cars recalled last year, but they do sell a lot in the first place. They recalled 37,448 Auris, Yaris and Rav4's (for the window switch mentioned by Richard). In addition their reputation for reliability means that they tend to make the news whenever they issue a recall. The car manufacturers with the most number of recalls in the UK in 2012 were: 1. Citroen 17 2. Peugeot 9 3. BMW 9 BMW had a bad recall year in 2012. Interesting Ian...guess there is a link between most sold and most recalled. Let's face it nobody is perfect and things are learnt in the field (often with a sense of over precaution - such as the window switch - or based on a limited number of incident, "that may....).
The most important thing is lessons can be learnt and corrected. When in the UK my Saab had a recall that had not caused an issue but had been identified that might (fuel pipe routing if I recall correctly).

Trojan, Austin and Reliant a few of the fails but I don't recall Moskowich, Gilbern, Saab, Daf or Berkeley being in business nowadays either. Gilbern? Alas no- not for many years. I use to pass the old Gilbern premises on my way to work and it always caused a pang of regret Still, a great car from the joint efforts of a Pontypridd pork butcher and a German engineer!!  G

Triumph had an illustrious past, and made some great cars in period, but not the TR7.
My Gilbern had bags of character, but bags of unreliability, and it was my daily driver for a year.
