How timely.......just after the postings over the past few days on safe jacking, comes an article in this months MOG Magazine about safely jacking up your car!
Nice try although it would have been good to include clearer photos of exactly where to put the axle stands.
Not a bad edition this month with some interesting articles and a red face from me! I'd told a few people that the upholstery for the Three Wheeler was sourced externally...just repeating what one of the factory tour guides told me (twice!) only to discover that it is made up in the trim shop by a rather charming young lady!

Agreed about the article and comments on the photographs.
As the Mog is such a unique car and the handbook is, shall I say, rudimentary, I think there would be a market for a well documented manual supported by pictures covering items like jacking the car, changing wheels, lubricating the front suspension, folding the hood etc. All the issues which people like me coming from less rarified marques find challenging albeit fascinating. I would find such a manual reassuring and confidence building as clearly I don't want to damage my Mog!

Had a chat with Lawrie today....he wrote the MOG article. He had supplied some clearer photos which sadly weren't used. He told me he prefers to jack up the rear of the car using the centre of the crossmember under the seats as he feels this is much stronger than the rear one.

I have not had a look at the construction of the diff but in days of old we used to put a trolly jack under the diff on a Holden to jack up the rear. Is that not possible with a Morgan?

I think the question was more about where to locate the Axle Stands. (sounds obvious ) I find it best to put the trollie under the rear chassis corners and put a stand along side if I dont want to lift the axle for chain spraying the rear springs.

I jacked mine up on Friday night to change the brake cylinder and to make bleeding easier.
I put the axle stands under the rear most cross member (aft of the axle) and the front ones under the forward tubular cross member. All was good. However I did notice the doors (which are a close fit) were a VERY close fit.
I think the longer span (about 2ft) increased the deflection in the chassis....a watch point.
When I have placed the axle stands under the rear axle all has been OK.

These are the points that Williams use when using axle stands or their hoists. Picks up the strongest points of the chassis and prevents any distortion.
