I weighed the SS wheel with a half worn Avon tyre, so the trye weighs 8.2kg? I find that strange but no mention of the weight on the Avon web site.

As the wheels and tyres on the Landrover Defender 90 were astoundingly heavy I weighed one on the bathroom scales.

From memory, a 265/75 16" on an alloy wheel was 7 and half stone! A girl in my office weighed less.

265/75 - that's a WIDE tyre, even on a Defender...
I like mine narrow - 7.50R16, much nicer drive and less wear on steering components.

Sold the Defender when it had done close to 80000 miles, the tyres were originals, and if they didn't crack up, would have done over 100000 miles. They were, to put it politely, as hard as old boots!

Looks like I might get the scales out tomorrow! I'll re weigh the alloy off my Roadster and I can weigh both a standard painted 4/4 wheel and tyre combo and a tyre by itself.

PS....one wheel and two part worn tyres still sit in my garage unwanted! They may end up going to the tip!

There is a US site where you can see weights for all brands and types and sizes they offer. They even offer Avon but I lost the name of the types Morgan uses.

The example shows how heavy tyres are (scroll down and click on Specs)

The answer?

With tyre is 18.2kg.

So the 5 of them are close to 100kg.

.

I have lost the point of a this, can someone explain please? If it's about saving weight then I really do not see the point unless you are racing your Morgan it's pointless! hide

The point was a question along the lines "are the allots really lighter than the spoke wheels"

The answer seems to be "not a lot"

What size your last wheel? Black presumably?
Just wondering whether to have an additional spare tucked away at the back of the garage...
