God love independent British sports car manufacturers.

My new car is at the factory because it needs a new hood. The hood on the original was defective and destroyed all its seals when being retracted.

So it went back to have a new and improved design.

Only Morgan have "lost the plans" for the new and improved design, and are apparently re-engineering a hood from scratch.

So no car until mid May at the earliest - it's sitting in the factory. Personally, I think it's an excuse as they have an order backlog on other stuff.

As ever BHM have been great, and are as frustrated as I am! As part of the plan was to have the new car to take down to Monaco for the GP (staying in Cap Ferrat, taking in some great driving roads on the way back), this is a problem. So going to look at another F355 Spyder and a 360 Modena this weekend - was going anyway as wanted to keep an option open, but now looks I may be going with the cheque book...

Really bad news Harry, but also very curious my Aero is at the factory now have a new hood fitted, this being the redesigned model?! I was meant to collect the car last Saturday, this has been delayed to Thursday, I was told this was only due to a shortage of head lining material……

Then you return the car back to the factory...

I'd do that. Unless you really need a ferrari on the drive too!
I'm running the Series 1 original hood, and it doesn't seal particularly brilliantly. EVen so it's very rare that it rains enough to drip on me!

Besides down in Monaco, the Aero is top dog. The Ferrari on the other hand is just another one of many... Last time I was down that way when I arrived at the hotel the manager made the chaps on the valet parking remove a 430 spyder from the front of the hotel and put the aero in pride of place instead! Becuase (and I quote) - That is special, this is only a Ferrari...

Good ideas chaps - only problem with taking the car back and driving it is that the defective hood leaks and isn't very secure, so not that happy with using the car...

Matt - it is exactly like yours, with the same problem, and having the same fix. It's the second version of the Series 1 hood, with the rubber seals and the higher roofline; this hood destroys its own seals when you raise and lower it, due to a design flaw.

Interesting that you were told that the delay was due to a lack of material - I was told that they had lost the pattern and nedded to basically redesign the hood from scratch, custom build it and properly test it (which seems implausible, but very diligent!).

Mr Tony - I hear what you say abut the Aero, and I agree - but the F355 Spyder in Tour De France Blue with tan interior is an itch I've always have to scratch too, though...we'll see how this example I'm inspecting this weekend looks!

Harry don't do it. Don't scratch that itch it will turn septic and you'll have to have limbs amputated.

The Ferrari will cost you dearly and they are simply not special enough.

I used to own a Ferrari dealership so I know....I've seen many a grown man break down and cry...... Seriously

Use the Aero in the mean time maybe just replace the seals or place a cover over the hood and screen when not in use.

My head has always steered me away from Ferraris, despite my heart wanting one. The Aero was a head and heart decision - but I have to say, this has rather put me off the prospect of owning one...if the factory can't even sort out a new hood efficiently, it doesn't bode well if more serious problems occur.

The F355 is a car I have always fancied trying - have done the Porsche thing and do not find anything below a GT3 to be special enough; and I do not want the GT3 for road use.

I am looking at the 360 Modena too - not the spyder as that is not within budget. My friend's has been trouble free and a lot of fun; he only sold it for a Cayenne Turbo due to baby arriving. I get the impresion that build quality is in a different league to the previous cars...

Shall drive a couple and see.

As I said, I still want the Aero - but depite BHM being briliant, the factory's inefficiency (after al - I decided to buy the car a month ago and they have had it for a week already before finally letting us know what was happening today) has really put me off!

I wouldn't let the hood issue put you off. Seriouslyit's a car worth waiting for, I've owned most cars, and tried plenty of others over the years and I maintain the Aero is THE most surprisingly brilliant car I've owned.

Besides, the hood issue is irritating but isolated. It's what you get if you want a special car.

360 is certainly of better quality than previous Ferraris but things will go wrong when it does it will hurt. I've enjoyed many miles in 360's but all within warranty times as a Demo would be so driving them never worried me in that respect.

Just be careful is all I would say.

Oh...forgot to say a GT3 is pure magic if we're talking 997, an awesome car on road as well as track. Not to be confused with the 996. Chalk and cheese. Now we're talking
