Brave indeed John cutting the dashboard, nice job notworthy

The MIG clock looks the business, as do the tripod lights from the "prince of darkness".

I'm looking forward to seeing the MK package fitted, it should look the business against the painted black dash.

Cheers, P.

Welcome back to the fold P!

Peter....I'm fitting one of Matthiaus's engine turned alloy panels. Still keeping all the standard switches and lights as I like the clean look of them. Thought it would go well with the black dash. You can blame 007.....he has a rather stunning black dash in his 4/4 Sport with similar inserts.

Jays, it´s a pleasure having "infected" respectively inspired you with the dashboard-styling of my Black Devil... smile

I still love that layout like on the first day. Very (!) classic and retro and as usual a perfect work of MK.

Can´t wait to see a camera of your final "artwork".

Good luck for the next leg to finalise it!

Kindest regards,

George

I think you are right, I look forward to seeing your final photos. Like your car my dash is black, but black leather. I've been wondering if a contrasting center panel would look good, possibly engine turned stainless: with matte leather it doesn't want to be polished.

When you have finished with your old panel could I borrow it to use as a template? I fancy making my own....

The old panel has to go back to Matthiaus. It's a bit more complex than just stripping everything off as there are mountings fitted to the rear of the original panel for all the switches and electronics so he uses the panel. I'll try to get a tracing off it for you.

Jay, thanks, but having looked at Matthias' web site I think I'll contact him directly: you are right, there is more to the pannel than meets the eye.

I see he also offers covers for the glove box: I want to see what that costs.

The parcel arrived from Matthias. Stripped down the existing dash centre panel yesterday and made good progress until I tried to get the heater control knob off. This should be held with a grub screw...it wasn't and appeared just forced onto the spindle. Matthias told me he'd had similar problems in the past and recommended an overnight soak in release fluid. That worked! The other knob also did not gave a grub screw but a mushroom headed bolt which barely cleared the inner bracket....not impressed! With the car having such low miles it has to be how the factory fitted it frown nono

This is the reverse of the panel with the electronic module uncovered; this pulls off the four switches once the 4 black plastic hex fasteners are twisted 45 degrees.

The wired to the immobiliser warning light have to be cut as the led pulls out from the front of the panel. The warning lights are in a self contained block at the bottom and this pulls off once the retaining screws are undone.

The module cluster removed. Note the black insulation tape which i assume was added to prevent wear from the heating control quadrant which just catches it on full rotation. Judging by the marks the tape should have been lower!

The rear of the panel after the module has been removed.

The new engine turned panel from Mk Holztechnik fully assembled and ready to mount in the dash.

More to follow once I've sorted some under dash wiring out!
