Never had one snap in 50,000 miles on my Harley. It's a wear item, in the same way as engine timing belts are, but it's not one to fret about. If you worry, simply carry a spare - at least they're lighter & cleaner to stash!

Zero wear on the drive drum, too. They don't like stones though..

Not at all! If designed and fitted during construction all that is needed is to have the bevel drive not fixed to the swinging arm and a stay that forms a parallelogram with the swinging arm to stop rotation. All the various designs to achieve this follow that simple principal.

Any news from you three guys? Did you get the new BBoxes and ... are they simple replacements (meaning, exactly the same as the originals) or are they different?

Mine is in stock now at the dealer, they are waiting for my exhaust replacement after it sheared and will invite me in for the repairs soon! I have no idea if it is just a newer batch but will look closely. The first voyage will be very hearing orientated.

This may be a silly question, but does anyone know how hot the bevel box casing gets during use? Too hot to touch?

I cannot believe that a simple right angle drive box should be more than very slightly above ambient temperature even after "active" use.

If it is too hot to touch then there is massive friction, caused either by incorrect assembly, incorrect machining or no lubricant, or all three!

I'll check the temperature of the differential on my car tomorrow, and report. Bet it is barely warm to the touch.

Thanks Peter, will be interesting to find out. Just tossing an idea around of soundproofing the thing itself, that's all.

If / when you get a good one they don't need soundproofing .
Also there is a lot of other noise from various sources !

I've sound proofed underneath the seats and the prop tunnel. Not fool proof but takes the edge off. I didn't try and do the box itself, might worth ago, I'd think it would be better to have the box possibly mounted on a sound insulating material but you'd have to be careful not to cause any undue movement in the drive, you don't want a noisy wobbly one as well. I have posted this already as has Blake Marvin, who did a far neater job than mine blush
