Has anyone replaced the standard M3W battery with a lighter, perhaps more efficient Gel type battery?

I put an Odyssey one in an S7 and it did crank it over better too, my M3W sounds lazy to start.

Can't comment on an M3W, but I put an Odyssey Battery on my 4/4 and it is very good. The battery is under-bonnet, thus quite small.

Lots of classic 3W owners use the Odyssey PC680 with good results. Some without generators use two of them (because they are only 17 amps?).

I can only add my thoughts here, but having worked with Harley twins of various sizes we had a lot of issues with apparently weak batteries when starting those high compression vee twins.

When we researched a little deeper, the culprit was a non-HD battery we offered as a cheaper replacement. The figures that matter are the 'Cold Cranking Amps' or CCI, which the manufacturer will declare on any adverts or info etc.

If that hits the target, and it's cheaper/smaller/lighter etc, then the jobs a good 'un!

Odyssey batteries are about as good as you can get these days, with shelf lives of a few years, properties of deep cell technology, ie, they can survive deep discharges w/o issue and plenty of cca's. I will certainly make the change from my stock battery a little down the road.
An interesting thing to note for those of us in the States, Sears Die Hard Platinum batteries are rebadged Odyssey's, and a fair bit cheaper. Unfortunately they don't come in a M3W size, but if your in the market for your normal sized vehicle, it's a great battery.
