Hi

Now 3 months since collection, 700 miles later (total only 3200), and I have done quite a few of the little jobs planned. I've put some photos in the gallery: see

http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showgallery&Number=14177#Post14177

I now have clear front indicators from SVP, £20 the pair including bulbs. Clear rear indicators were sourced from Ebay at £10 pair, UK made from the Lucas moulds - sourcing the bulbs was a pain as these need to be amber but with the pins inline not offset as per normal amber bulbs.

I wanted convex glass on the mirrors as the factory flat glass is worse than useless, and the 70s shape doesn't suit the car IMO. Fitting the very nice Librands round mirrors (£56 the pair to fit your own bases) was tricky as the shaft is s/s rod of 10mm diameter, compared to 9.5mm for the original shaft. This is too big to fit through the grey plastic ferrule, which needs to be cut longitudinally to allow it to fit (very tightly) then covered with the black plastic ferrule. They look good though, and work well.

I got my missing keys cut and coded as mentioned earlier, and fixed the hood seal, though haven't really tested it in heavy rain. I had to re-glue the driver's side sidescreen block which fell out, and found that 3-in-1 dry silicone spray freed up the (previously very stiff) sidescreens very nicely.

The former owner had fitted Union Jack badges with a "Runabout" logo - I don't know where these came from but they're rather nice.

The interior shows the Motolita wheel and Librands short-throw gearshift, which were already fitted. The shift is excellent. I may fit an aluminium horn push centre - very expensive for what it is but the plastic centre looks a little out of place. Some of the gauges misted up today - the first time I've had this but the temperature is 0degC.

Still to do - a worn patch on the trans tunnel vinyl (left foot area). I also have a pair of bonnet supports still to fit. The spots are the factory type and were fitted at the original purchase date - their position is not ideal (almost touching the overriders, and need to be rotated inwards slightly) so I may try the Librands spot brackets.

The wheels are new today - stainless 5x15 from MWS, shod with new Firestone F560s. I have sold my chrome wires, as I wanted minimal maintenance. The steering is a little lighter with the Firestones than with the Conti's previously fitted but that could be pressures (not checked) or just newness. I had a hell of a job freeing off the OSR spinner to change the wheels. That spanner is too short!

Nigel

I see that you still use the spanner type wheel nut. You should get the 2 ear type nut and a good rubber hammer. This eliminates the holding of the spanner in one hand and hitting it with a metal hammer with the other hand. You may be able to get them in stainless steel, but I have fitted chrome ones with stainless wheels and they look great.

I don't believe so, but this one is even better, a 4/4 sport.

i don't think the runabout was as popular as the MMC thought it would be, imho it was just too expensive for what it was. people could pay that little extra and get a 4/4.

do we know how the pricing on the new 4/4 sport is looking??
