My 3 Wheeler has a Yokohama Blue Earth rear tyre. So far, it seems pretty good and I drove through some heavy rain on the way home from my dealer, Marcassus Sport of Toulouse (a journey of 600km/372 miles). But it's difficult to draw any definite conclusions with the restrictions imposed by the running-in limit.


What other OE rear tyres does Morgan use for the 3 Wheeler and what do you intrepid owners think of them? I recall seeing a Vredestein, my tyre of choice for my sensible car, on the back wheel in a factory photo.

Mine is a Yokohama A Drive .

I've generally been happy with it , although now the colder damp weather has arrived it seems to be sliding around more than I remember last year . It is showing a fair bit of wear in the centre so maybe this is the cause or perhaps I've got overconfident over the summer !

Something I did not spot earlier is that the Yokohama Blue Earth tyre has an asymmetric tread pattern, which is surely not fit for purpose.

I have notified my dealer and await his response...

I finally got round to having my 7k mile service and it was suggested i got my tyre changed as it was looking pretty worn .

A Yokohama Blue Earth was fitted , I only looked at it quickly while it was up in the air but I thought it looked like a symmetrical pattern (?).
I've only done around 35 miles this afternoon , but it certainly felt good . A vast improvement on the worn one !

If I find the time to work out how to upload a photo here I shall do so. The pattern of the shoulders and inner treads of my tyre is clearly asymmetrical.

I'll have a better look at mine tomorrow .

Here's what my dealer says:

"A slight lack of symmetry like that shouldn’t have any great effect on handling. Very difficult to find symmetric tyre patterns these days."

That may be so and I cannot say that I have noticed a difference in handling between left-hand and right-hand bends.

However, when the Yokohama wears out, I shall try to get a Vredestein Sportrac S.

Hmm , that's interesting .

Looking at mine it seems the main grooves are symmetrical , also there's no marking I can see saying left/right which are found on the Toyos on my other car .

The other thing to bare in mind is that the car itself isn't symmetrical !
(the rear wheel is not in the centre ) .....

Many asymmetrical tyres are designed with differing characteristics in different parts of the tread. For example half the tread width optimised for dry grip and half for wet weather.

I would assume (dangerous I know) that for a single wheel installation it won't make much difference in cornering as the wheel would remain pretty much vertical throughout.
