In the summer I received a phone call about my PC it was faulty . They tried to get the details of my plastic . Some of you may remember . Its an Asian voice but for the last several months out of the blue they have put a woman on still an Asian voice . The phone rings after picking it up there is a delay then the woman speaks and says " its about your computer " she is not that sharp in the brain or speach . Today I got a little tired and blasted her with a cross between ship yard workers , miners , and steel workers temper telling it to *?{+!&%@{ and ending with the word off. I hope it sinks in to this criminal robbing b*st*rd's skull because by did I enjoy it. Only shows these bits of scum must have a list of phone numbers a mile long and never give up trying and when you blast them they dont tick your number off the list. Next time I will use miners who have hit their thumb speach.

Ask them to call you back on your other phone and give them the number of the local Indian takeaway.

We were awakened by a call from them at 7am last saturday morning.
My wife picked up the 'phone, and from what she said I suspect the caller's english vocabulary may now be rather broader than it was before.

I got so pee'd off with all the calls from various sources (not just the computer one) that I have Caller ID enabled and changed two of the phones in the house (being on the TPS list doesn't seem to stop the marketing calls any more). This works well, except when is checking for the caller number - if she doesn't recognise it, she wont answer the phone. I have missed several calls from friends since setting this up! However, as many of the scam type calls that JT mentions seem to come from abroad, any International Call is held now. I'm beginning to wonder how many numbers I can add to the blocked number list. It doesn't stop the phone ringing, but does give you a very good chance of never having to talk to these thieves etc. again.

Thanks I may just do that said to I may tell them next time I am from the National Front or Ku Klux Klan. The PC was a bit funny this m/ing but has corrected itself. Ask them to call you back on your other phone and give them the number of the local Indian takeaway.

I went x-directory a year or so ago but it makes no difference to the amount of nuisance calls I get. I guess the number and info is already out there. Don't want to change my number though. I've had it a long time.

I have a Gigaset phone and it offers the option to cancel the ring when the callerID is blocked. It may stop some people reaching me but at least it does not annoy.
I also use drunk glaswegian on them if they happen to reach me. The alternative is to do the pervert. "What are you wearing, do you like people linking your toes" etc etc.
I once let them get all the way through (double glazing conservatory sales) and then asked them if they were able to fit the conservatory. I was in flat 3 on the second floor. It took them a moment to work it out and then got quite angry.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I think that the other ploy is to ask to speak to a UK customer rep-it works for me.

The best I have come up with is that I have caller id, and have an answer phone. If the number is international or withheld number, I do not answer and let it go through to the answer phone. The problem is that some of the PPI chasers are using 0800 numbers.

My elderly parents get quite scared by such intrusive calls, and although they're quite well versed in saying no, it increasingly unsettles them.
I was having a sandwich with them the other week when they rang & I got mum to hand the phone straight over to me. There was an Asian sounding voice on the line who introduced himself as Brian. Now, it could be true of course, but I'd stake my salary on it being an adopted telephone name..!
Brian explained that he was ringing about the computer & went into his script about essential something or other, and was I at the computer now?
Given that my parents are almost 90 years of age, having a laptop isn't high on their agenda but Brian needn't know that.
I answered all his questions, guessed at the answers, and made up a story as I went along. Brian assured me I had to pay him for something & so I dutifully whipped out my phone, googled an image for a credit card & gave him the details..
He must have felt quite smug for a few minutes; well, until it didn't compute on his payment machine, anyway.
He got me to confirm the number until it dawned on him that he was being strung along, at which point he told ME to eff-off..!!!
Very poor customer service from these johnny foreigner scammers, it seems.
Made mum chuckle, anyway.
Moral, as always, is beware..
