I think on the flat, in snow, driver skills come into play if you have no electronic driver aids, however as a long time Land Rover owner of many different types having hill decent engaged (if fitted) is a life saver on steep roads covered in snow or ice. I have driven down steep roads without the hill decent mode engaged just to see the difference. Engaged its easy when not engaged its terrifying scared

Pick a vehicle with thin wheels/tyres better point of contact and more grip

Last January we were away for a night in the peaks in deep snow. The Son in Laws Seat Leon with snow tyres was unruffled by snow covered roads and hills and was very impressive. At one point we followed a small convoy of Land Rovers (Discovery's) and they were holding us up. No kidding.

A possible snowfall forecast for the Paris area next week has inspired me to swap the wheels over on the Mini & the Volvo for the winter sets. Just the Transit van to do now, 'tho the photo of the Italian Mog with skis did make me wonder about equipping the Morgan.......

Mind you, at about 45 minutes per car to swap the wheels over I don't think the McLaren team will be offering me a job anytime soon.
