Personally, I love the layout as it's a cross-over from the earlier flick swiched dashboards with the large speedo and combo dials. The large speedo is mounted in the correct place - directly in front of the passenger and the rev-counter mounted in direct line of sight for the driver - perfect!
Morgan instruments of the 1960s and early 1970s were very 'traditional', partiularly in comparison with the mainstream cars where dashboard design was heavily influenced by US trends?
By the way Richard, have you had trouble with the two-position headlight switch failing? I have probably gone through three or four switches over the years. they burn out with the load from the lights. I always intended wiring in another 6RA solenoid to isolate the switch. It's fitted to the toolbox along with the other two; the mounting holes were pre-drilled at the factory possibly for the US market or similar.
I've not had any problems so far with my switches, but like you I plan to fit relays. That said I have been able to source new switches all round. (I guess mine is more like Trigger's broom!).
I have noticed there seems to be no standard w.r.t. switch location (or dials)...best dashboard - probably - until I saw a "new" painted one and was quite taken....would I change mine. No. Does it mean a new addition to the stable - probably

What's the light to the right of the steering wheel?
An original Lucas starter button. Was not connected when I got the car, but now turn the key to the "on" position and press the button. You can still "turn the key" but the button is MUCH cooler!!
Reading up on these threads I think I have to make up a carbon fibre dash! Is there anyone out there who can do me a paper template of a new super sport dash or a classic plus 4 dash? And I'll have a bash at making one up.
May not be the most traditional. Here is what we're assembling in my 72 plus 8. Full custom fabrication throughout. Wheel to be replaced with traditional wood type.
