The little stud over which the bottom edge of the hood fits behind the door broke off today whilst driving along. Carefully fastened, after clipping the hood down at the back, as always. Then driving down the A34 I could hear a metallic rattle, not loud, from the passenger side. Got home and lo and behold the hood was lose, one part of the stud and about 3mm of thread in the hood, the other bit deep down in the wood. So how do I get out something that is only about 3mm diameter and recessed, without damaging the bodywork? Has anyone done this successfully? A prize for the best answer....

Search for Tenax or Tennex and you will find several threads on the topic.
PS. "They all do that, sir"

I broke one off my brand new +4 the first time I dropped the hood and forgot to undo first. I was able to drill a hole and use a fine screw extractor that came in the set I had. It is possible

Peter, it might be worth calling Keith at BHM.
I did exactly the same thing, leaving a buried stud in the woodwork. I was mortified - on a brand new Morgan too.
I took it to BHM and they repaired it - without a mark. I've no idea how they did it, but it's obviously something they've done many times. Keith is a friendly chap and I'm sure he won't mind telling you how to do it....

I'm sure Williams can do it! If it snaps on mine I'll replace it with the Tenax stud on a 2 screw mounting plate. Less likely to break.

You need a pin chuck with a top quality modellers drill. I did this early on. First job was to fix a washer over the drill site with double sided tape to stop unintended damage. Then slowly start the hole, until the drill finds its own way. It took me several evenings work to drill down the centre until sawdust started to emerge, when I knew I'd got to the bottom. Then I inserted a triangular modellers needle file into the hole and it just wound out. Simple as that.
A pin chuck is a finger drill which you rotate between thumb and forefinger.
PS - those screw fittings are almost monkey metal - not hard, easy to drill and easy to snap off..........

Thanks to all for making me feel better....I am not alone!
I'll try Dave's proposal, I have a nice modellers tool kit, due to an unfortunate addiction to making plastic Aircraft kits, brought on by Airfix and Woolworths in the early 1960s and un-curable, but that is another story.
But Jay's suggestion of a more robust TENEX fastener mount is also good. Using a 2 screw mounted backplate makes it easy to replace if (when) I do it again and means I don't have to drill out the old one. It also means I can mount the TENEX Stud 2 or 3mm higher to relieve pressure on the thing.
So, where to buy? Some research needed.

So, where to buy? Some research needed. PM me your address and I'll send you some. I bought quite a few (including the screws) when I snapped mine - turned out I didn't use them, so they're spare.
