Having enjoyed a super sunny drive around the Cirencester area this morning in my 2009 4/4 sport I find the heater is hardly warm with the temperature gauge registering only about 60 degrees falling to 50 degrees when descending hills.
Is it just a matter of a new thermostat or is it more complicated.
Driving without the hood with tonneau it would be nice to have some heat during winter runs.
Any advice would be appreciated.

What was the ambient temperature? Modern engines run cooler than older units, so with "cool" airflow past the radiator this may be right....perhaps you need a heater fitted, not just one that is heated by the cooling system.

That gauge reading sounds very low, I would expect to see nearer 100 degs C. Do you think you might have an airlock somewhere? Try squeezing the bottom hose with a warm engine and the radiator cap off (take care when removing). Gerry.

Interesting to hear from other Sigma engined 4/4 Sport owners?
That engine is so neat and compact that I wonder if there is just too much cold airflow around the engine?

My 2011 4/4 temp is normal (95deg) hot or cold weather well +28 to -2 ambient so far. Heater works almost too well.

Anyone remember radiator blinds?
More to the point my Roadster keeps a steady 90 but of late, as the ambient temperature has dropped the heater struggles to keep me warm above 70mph. It seems as if too much cold air is getting into the heater. So I may blank off part of the intake for the winter.

Many thanks for your replies, to answer Richard the ambient temperature was around 6/7 degrees.
As suggested by Dave I shall blank off a section of the radiator and try this, I remember doing this back 50 years ago and it helped then, thanks.

Please check coolant level carefully. Also appearing to run cool may be a symptom of a number of things:
1) A failed thermostat stuck open
2) An airlock in the system
3) A faulty temperature sender
4) A wiring fault
5) Fan relay fault leaving the fan running constantly
Also, a noticeable variation when descending hills is abnormal
I am fairly sure that you can get temperature sensors that work on infra-red - worth taking some readings.
