A day at the Chateau
No...not an exotic French Chateau but Worcestershire's own "French" chateau...the Chateau Impney at Droitwich where day one of the Classic and Sports Car and H&H Classics two day event is being held. Today was preview day for the H&H auction and I got a chance to have a look at some interesting cars and fall in love with a couple! Shame I don't have a spare garage...I don't want to sell the Morgan to make space...otherwise I might have been very tempted.
A real mix of car from barn finds ('58 Rolls Silver Cloud, '75 Alfa 2000 GTV..which looked pretty reasonable....the latter...NOT the Rolls!) to some modern stuff and in particular a lovely '02 Bentley Arnage that we all sat in and dreamt! The cars for me though were a rather lovely and quite rare '33 Singer Deluxe Sports 9 Coupe and a Healey 100/4, well fettled by Dennis Welch.
Whilst having coffee in the Chateau we met up with the owner...a real classic nut...and very charming...who showed us around and then took us out to see the hill climb course. It looks like it will be 2015 before it starts but whilst not particularly steep it looks fast and has some very tight off camber bends.
Back tomorrow (its only just down the road for me which makes a change!) to meet up with Wirewheel for a further browse

The '58 Royce is owned by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, he left it behind when he moved to the USA in 1992. I guess that's what happens when you're not careful with the packing.

Is the Bentley Arnage the green one with the the chromed alloys? If so it looks lovely and, potentially, great value c.f. new, very grand indeed!
Did you see the BRG V12 E Type by any chance? I was curious to know if it was as good in the flesh (should that be metal?) as it looked in the photos.

Thanks NM!
Ian, interesting history then on the Rolls. It is in a pretty bad state of repair...not so much a barn find as a dumped in a field find by the looks of it. The interior was well rotted....and the smell!
Phillip, yes, that the Bentley, a lovely motor and I wonder what it will fetch tomorrow? The condition inside and out is near perfect. I saw the green E Type. It was pretty good, looked freshly restored although there were a couple of imperfections on the bodywork that would annoy me. There were a couple more E Types there, a Heather (looked metallic pink to me!) V12 Roadster with cream interior, cream hardtop and whitewall tyres and one not catalogued, a VERY tasty red early V12 Roadster which had been restored some time ago and had been dry stored since with very little mileage put on it. Immaculate body. Owned by a government minister I was told.

I left before then. I'd gone over in the morning to meet up with Wirewheel....Redmorgan and Matty from MOG mag turned up in a Three Wheeler as well. Apart from a couple in a yellow four seater from Bromsgrove and a nice 4/4 Sport I saw no other Morgans there. Wirewheel and I popped off to Holdens and then lunch up near there on the Downs and I popped back in to see the auction later. Was stunned at the number of people who had turned up....hugely popular. Hung around for a while watching the auction but left before the Bentley came up. The prices should be published tomorrow on H&H's website. There was a nice, very tidy DB7 that went for £9k....

DB7 for £9k??? Good grief, that's almost in my league... Bet it's a lot more than that when it appears on a dealer's forecourt. Interesting little piece on the local TV news yesterday evening regarding the possbile re-introduction of a hill climb - and the presenter looking slightly scared while being driven up the course in an XK120(? 140)...

I drove up it yesterday....not at any great speed though! It'll be fast and some very tight corners. Some good spectating positions are going to be built. Should make a good addition to the Hill Climb calendar although it's more of a sprint course.
