Hesketh will use the S&S engine on their new bike, Hesketh 24.

See link; http://www.heskethmotorcycles.co.uk/hesketh-24/

I can't understand why, if the motor is sufficuently cooled when cramped up in a frame with one cylinder masking the other the M3W, with the two pots open in the breeze, it needs additional cooling.... confused

Normally the two cylinders are placed off-set in a V-twin configuration.Meaning the aft cylinder is still partially in the airflow.
The engine in the Hesketh has probably a lot easier life than in the Morgan, with respect to the weight. That is maybe why the engine in the Morgan has to deal with higher temperatures?

Rudolf.

I'd say its because motor bikes are never stopped by traffic, they just create another lane hide

I have yet to have mine go into skip fire even in traffic in the summer. Having said that the only time I've been properly stuck in virtually stationary traffic for about half an hour it was on a slight downhill so I just shut the engine down and gently coasted. At least on a bike you don't really get stuck in traffic jams like that.

I found mine would go into the skip fire mode within about 5 minutes of sitting in a queue on a hot day in the summer , so in hotter climates this must happen a lot .

The cylinders are slightly offset presumably to help when used in a bike , although it's hard to see it making much difference .

Mines done it a few times but its never got hot enough in the UK for this to happen.

The offset of the cylinders I think is more to do with the cylinder and rod position on the crank rather than for any aerodynamic reason

Harley sell fans for their bikes too, but badge them as 'for parade use' to stop the leather tassle brigade getting scared.

I've had my 'Glide drop to one cylinder but only in the snarl up chaos known as Monte Carlo..in August..in leather jeans..my, what a laugh doh

It will be interesting to see how they handle in Australia when allowed. Sitting in traffic in 40 degrees or even driving around on a 40 degree day with little breeze. I guess there wont be too much posing going on. drive shades

Not built for slow drives down the coffee strip with one arm on the door frame and the other (hopefully) on the wheel in summer confused
