I had my rear one replaced at the 7000 mile service ( a massive improvement in grip !) . My fronts look like they'll last a while yet .

What make of tyre did you fit to give the "massive improvement in grip"?

The original Yokohama A drive was replaced with a similar looking Yokohama Blue Earth .

The original tyre was worn to the wear bars in the centre , I think the improvement in grip is more to do with having more tread now the roads are damp most of the time .

I noticed a new car car in Krazy Horse had a Vredstien fitted , it'd be interesting to hear peoples experiences of these .

The rear tyre question is interesting. It seems that the factory are fitting whatever they have in stock, not one tyre in particular that has been honed for use on the Three Wheeler.

What is really needed is a soft compound rear tyre, giving plenty of grip, but for our low miles, the wear isn't particularly important. From my experience with Caterham Sevens I know that the Avon CR500 is just such a tyre, and they do it in the right size too. The trouble is, as I'm such a wimp, I haven't done enough miles for any wear to even show yet, otherwise I would've changed to one. If someone else is looking for a sticky rear tyre, then try the Avon.

I can't say I've felt that the Yokohamas lack grip (until pretty worn down ) . I'm not sure there'd be much advantage in a grippier one as I'd rather the back slid first ! Also due to the hassle of changing them , one a year is enough !

I had a look at the Avon website Paul but cannot see a CR500 in 175/65 15 size but if they do it that may be just the thing. The rear wheel has to work twice as hard on a 3 wheel car I suppose. My Yokohama Blue Earth original tyre is down to 4.5mm after just 3000 miles so its life will not be long. The choice of symetrical tread tyres in this size isn't great, going through the available options shouldn't take too long when the time comes.
