They definitely missed a trick on the Morgan front. Had they bought one, at least their year without imported stuff could have been a fun one. Still, with the family living in Westerham, no worries on the beer front with all the delicious ales available from the wonderful Westerham Brewery.

On a serious note, apparently one of the arguments which persuaded George Osborne to end the persecution of the brewing industry by ending the beer duty escalator was the excellent contribution that brewers, in particular traditional brewers, make to the economy. Not only are traditional ales brewed in the UK, most of the raw materials (apart from certain strains of hop) are bought locally too. So come on, do your patriotic duty and raise a glass of traditional ale (or maybe a few more) this Xmas.

I shall certainly be raising a few glasses Giles - local ale, cider and the odd drop of malt...

May tomorrow be full of peace, joy, goodwill and suitable inebriation :xmascheers: (I think that should cover the important aspects grin2 ).

I have a nice case of mixed UK ales. Will need to ensure they get opened out of sight of the 3 sons!

Fortunately, swmbo does not like ale. Though she has consumed a large amount of my mead - guess I'll have to finish off the bottle now.

Have you noticed Wychwood brew a Bah Humbug for the Christmas period?

We're blessed round here with several traditional farm cider makers as well as several decent micro breweries. But my experience of them is much the same as the link described - they are more expensive than imports. How we end up importing Swedish cider into Somerset I really dont know
