I really enjoyed Chris Harris' film and is a "must watch" - it really captured the spirit of the event.

I was privileged to take part on the 2011 event - my Rapier was 100th (yes really)the budget of the stars. A short write up is here

mille miglia in a rapier

The event is a day longer this year and unsurprisingly, even more expensive. Shame as it takes away some of the challenge and all of the house keeping!

Happy days.

Yes, I know, the AH should be at least in the 100 M specification to get the entry and that would be a bit more expensive. I have looked to the official website a few month ago and there wasn't such a list, but now it's there, thank you...

The Aceca is there only with Bristol engine, which is more expensive than the budget, the AH 100 M also, so the XK 120 FHC seems to be my last favourite for the MM...

Jari - the MM guys used to publish a list of all the eligible cars (they still do) and which had competed in previous retrospectives (they don't now). From this you could pick a model which would be "a first" for the selection committee. Having said that, nearly two thirds of the entry is taken by sponsors so it is very hard to get an entry. Looking at my list from 2010 of "affordable", "a first" cars there were:

Bristol 400 - 1949
Citroen DS19 - 1956
Fiat 600 '633cc' - 1955
Jag Mk VII - 1953
Lancia Appia 1090 - 1954
Mercedes 180 + 180D - 1955
Mercedes 220 - 1956
MG ZA - 1956
Peugeot 403 - 1956
Saab 93 - 1957
Sunbeam Rapier - 1956

NB Some of these cars have since done the MM.

All cars have to be totally original and then you need FIVA or FIA documents to prove it. Finding non modified cars made the search even harder - try finding a bog standard MG ZA for example - you would think it would be easy!

Good luck

Eligible for MM seems to be only the Aceca with Bristol engine according to the official website, I also thought the AC engine would be eligible too, I have seen it also in another offering for the Aceca...

Thank you for the list John, I just don't want to do the MM with the most affordable car, but with a car I would like to do it...

But maybe I would pick from your list the Lancia Appia or the Citroen DS 19, I like those cars too smile

Not particularly my favorite cars either - I would rather enter a Lancia B20 or Gullwing Merc but putting aside their value, the event has dozens of these cars entered by the sponsors.

My view is to find something "odd" that the selectors hadn't seen before. The Rapier was going to be sold after the event (its not my sort of car) - but how can I sell it after the pleasure its given me??

How about a Studebaker Golden Hawk Weird, wacky, affordable!
