Anyone know the current position on the intended introduction of ESC on all new cars from 2014, and how that affects classic Morgans?

I suspect that as Morgans are produced in limited numbers, they will slip below the requirement. Just as they do not need to meet the latest crash tests etc.

I thought I had read somewhere that Morgans (trads?) had been subjected to crash tests and that they passed - anyone know for sure?

The crash issue is with the US rear end crash test. I believe that was one of the reasons the trad cannot be sold as new cars in the US.

I think the lack of air bags may also be an issue in the US.

That's probably what I was thinking of.

The USA is a bit paranoid about rear impact fires after the Ford Pinto. Europe has a bigger concern about driver safety! I'm still surprised Morgan doesn't fit a modern mulded plastic tank, one size would fot all the trads other than the new +8

All the trads can have airbags for driver and passenger: the glove box is lost and the steering wheel looks horrible. I beieve Germany requires the airbags, but perhaps someone can confirm?

I've not seen air bagged cars destined for Germany at the factory. There will come a time I'm sure when the EU insist on all cars irrespective of manufacturing numbers to have airbags, ESC, ABS etc and it will be interesting to see how Morgan approach that.

Probably with help from BMW.

Prediction: BMW will take an "interest" in Morgan.
