"This may sound very basic, but the main thing to remember is that you cannot properly check belt tension when the rear tyre is on the ground. The chance that side of the belt that you're checking tension on is in a bind by vehicle loading one side of the belt making checking that side almost impossible.

Harley belts tend to loosen up as the bike warms up with some mileage, which I'm sure the M3W will do as well."

Welcome to the forums Dan, we'll see if we can't convince you that a Morgan Three Wheeler would look good in your garage. innocent

Your advice about checking the belt tension with the wheel off the ground may be basic, but it hadn't occurred to me, so thanks for that, advice is always welcome.

I look forward to more of your posts. cheers

After removing the rear cover to change the 240mm to the new 280mm VDO petrol gauge I found that the drive belt tension was fine, but was running 3/4" off the side of the sprocket. Lucky to have found it early on.
