Nice, but I wish journalists would stop perpetuating the myth that it will get to 60 in 4.5 seconds! If only it would. Silly! That is nought to 60 kph

misinforming the media into thinking its a better/faster car isnt exactly the worst thing in the world. Dont get so caught on the details and enjoy the exposure for what it is.

There is a dealer, who I was speaking to just today, who claims to be able to reprogram the S&S ECU. As my BB has to be changed sometime soon, I might just try his claim and see if he can find the missing 30 ponies whilst it is there.

Suspect a remap with no other changes will release only a small-ish proportion of those missing dobbins. But get the exhaust (and possibly air filter cover) opened up and they will be there for the taking I suspect. I am working on a removable de-CAT pipe for the cars (for offroad use only of course) and will report back once it's on, hopefully in the next few weeks. Then it's just the back half of the pipes to tackle (straight through absorption type silencer under the stock heat shield, so it all looks standard) and we're done. ..... and that's when your friendly remapping dealer with a rolling road comes in! I don't consider this 'tuning' as such, just making the engines do what they were designed to do in the first place. Too much power can spoil the whole thing, but getting back what was designed into the thing in the first place should be spot on

But won't an increase in torque/hp put the entire transmission (not sure about right word here) in even greater danger? It's not as if the M3W is considered safe from transmission issues so we can step up to greater engine power.

It's not as if the M3W is considered safe from transmission issues so we can step up to greater engine power. A very obvious concern, but I am working on the assumption that the restrictions in power are more to do with global legislation rather than longevity 'specifically' for the tranny etc. If my theory is correct and it does release the lost power, then it needs to be used responsibly, like all upgrades and tuning - a monkey can kill any car given enough abuse. If my theory comes to nothing then I get a more fruity sounding motoring experience with no additional load being generated, in which case I'll still be happy! Clearly I am going to come a cropper one day, but I am probably over-optimistic in terms of built in over-engineering as I come from a project that supercharged a Fiat Panda 4x4 to produce exactly twice the power as it had stock. I'm 3 years and 20,000 miles in and it still fly's like a good'un on 100% stock everything else. But I do take your point!

I like the sound of that Panda , IMHO small fast cars are the thing to have , especially if they look relatively normal .
I realise of course that M3Ws don't fit into the 'looking relatively normal ' category !!

Even if the early compensator doesn't like the extra power, it sounds as if the new one for the 2014 model will certainly take it, and be a lot smoother at lower rpms too.
