I have been using the 'Mothers' polish as mentioned on another thread to good effect, not cheap but at least you get enough !
It seems slightly more effective then autosol on the exhaust headers.

A new product to order & try, because my blue job chrome polished finished on me & i haven't even reached the cats plus the headers haven't reached anyones satisfaction level of shininess as its removes the blueing but not so much the rust spots.

No it is not the lean mixture. It is quite natural for stainless steel to develop a bronzey blue colour when it gets almost red hot. The only way to avoid this is to have double walled header pipes, that is to say one pipe inside another. This has been done on some expensive touring bikes but is costly and adds to the weight.

Some people quite like the colour that develops and get a bit upset if it is not even. It is important not to touch the pipes with your hands after you have polished them. In some cases the action of the heat and the finger or hand prints can cause them to colour first and stand out on the pipes.

I don't mind the extra weight,it looks so much better all chrome instead of the blueing & discolouring.

I have heard that wrapping the top of the pipe with 4 or 5 coils of copper wire will stop the discolouration, but don't know if this an old wives tale or not?
