Thinking of swapping my speedo and rev counter on my 2013 M3W (as you did?) Was it worth the effort?

Two questions please:

Presumably the hex dome headed bolts fit into captive nuts?

Is the wiring easy to remove/replace and long enough to re-position?

Thanks

Hi Brabazon, I felt it was worth swapping over, as I feel it is more important to use the rev. counter, and therefore be able to see it easily, than the speedo, especially as the S&S motor has a very narrow rev band of no less than 2500, otherwise it chunters too much, and could be responsible for damage to the compensator.

I honestly can't remember but I suspect that the bolts screw linto rivnuts, which of course are captive, and the wiring is just about long enough to reach, but you may have to do a little gentle untangling.

@black adler. Dennis Glavis at morgan west has fitted a couple cars with a similar set of instruments on the passenger side of the dash. his have been polished. for me it just looks too busy but that's just my taste. I'll try to dig up a pic of what they looked like fitted.

I fitted a chronograph from a MIG29, I won't be doing over mach1 but it should put up with the vibration.

Mounting pod, thats a story in itself, I agonised for weeks as there is nothing off the shelf that fits so I made plastic and cardboard templates but everything just looked wrong.

The eureka moment came when I spied a stainless steel tea caddy, out came the ruler and it was just the right size.

The hole I cut in the bottom is like a teddy bears head upside down, and then cut 2 angles so it would fit snugly between the trans. tunnel and dash trim.

I then made a hidden clamp to hold it in place so no holes had to be drilled in the trim.

It would have been easier to have stuck it in the dash but wheres the fun in that.
