Chris, I think you need to clear any Italian Blood out of your stable and double up with the English Vintage  Richard and I would only be too happy to help you manage the miles in them  \ Nah! I'm too fond of the Italian Blood to give that up!  They all look different and gives me the variety (the spice of life) I need! But another Max? It looks the same as my one but with a different paint colour, trim and transmission...

Now you're just being picky trying to find a reason not to buy the car  I'm happy to do an inspection for you when I am QLD next week... But both are Max's and I can only pick the one which appeals to me. Anyway, I reckon you will look great driving one: it has your name stamped all over it ....

Do you pay a lot in terms of import taxes as the prices works out at circa £145k Luxury Car Tax (LCT) in Australia kicks in above AUD 60,316 (say UKL 32,550) and is 33%. I believe there are some other taxes before that. The sting is that LCT applies on sales of secondhand cars above the threshold. Now I don't know if the $258k being asked includes the LCT. I imagine it does. And if that isn't enough there is venerable stamp duty at varying rates in different states of around 2% in NSW. The beauty is that a Morgan 4/4 enjoys an LCT concession because it is considered an economical car.

So a car could be subject to LCT several times during it's (earlier) lifetime? Definitely not cricket. That's like putting VAT on top of fuel duty

I doubt LCT now applies When does LCT not apply to a supply of a luxury car?
The supply of a luxury car is not subject to LCT if any of the following apply:
* the car is more than two years old – that is, it was manufactured in Australia more than two years before the supply, or it was imported and entered for home consumption more than two years before the supply In any case if it was imported less than two years ago the previously paid LCT is deduced from the LCT obligation. A UK car at 110k is competetive to this with a 33% LST (especially if it' not been smacked a couple of times...) You seem to be forgetting to factor in the cost benefit of the massive buggeration factor that appears to be involved in importing and registering anything that's not run of the mill down under.
