...did you buy your Three Wheeler?

It has just occurred to me that not everyone saw the Morgan Three Wheeler as a natural 'must have' purchase, as I did, when it was first announced.

I just love 'off the wall' small performance cars, [hence my love affair with Caterham Sevens for the last 28 years], and always hankered after a Morgan 2 or 3 speeder since I was into motorbikes as a kid, truth be told I also looked at the Messersmidt, the Berkely, even the Bond with the engine over the front wheel when I was 16, and although I did buy a watercooled 2 speeder for £13, I never got it onto the road and sold it 6 months later for £15, so I suppose I shouldn't complain.

What has got you lot into this stupid little machine?

simple answer, everybody can drive a normal car or bike! the fun factor is exceptional!

As an antidote to the relentless ethnic cleansing of feel, accessibility and fun from too many modern cars. My last Audi (RS6, 540bhp, infinite grip, infinite speed, Veyron brakes, blah blah) became dull and (in the UK at least) totally unusable for the purpose for which it was designed. Even if I did hit an indicated 200mph on the A1 near Berlin once though, which I admit was quite high up the fun scale.....

I was hooked when the M3W was announced and convinced that it needed a place on the Shopping List when Autocar tested it. A drive in one following a chat to RTCC in Grazely and my build slot magically appeared.... and then suitable funds sometime later.

I was on the path to buying a touring bike, but the Mrs baulked at the idea of riding pillion for long distances. However I got complete buy in with the M3W !
Rigged out with a bikers electric jacket and gloves she has completely bought into the idea, even the buying of the recent upgrades which have been a success.
I would like to think we have a good compromise between bike and car. We get the fresh air, views and fabulous engine noise while sat in a car .
Also I like the tinker potential with the M3W which fits right in with my other hobby of model engineering.
Not heavy car mechanics - that is what the dealer is for , just regular servicing and the pleasure of keeping an attractive peice of engineering in good working order.
My 2015 goal is to tour the UK in it.

Saw an original one as a kid and just "wanted" it. Even decided on a custom license plate.

Kidded around with the idea of building a Lomax, and wisely didn´t.

Just couldn´t help it when the five speed came out. Had to have it.

The number plate combination was free, so I got that too. *s*

R1NGA I agree to much kit & technology on modern cars is removing the fun. Its only a matter of time until its illegal to open the bonnet unless you are licensed as a dealer.
It was probably the Autocar test that ignited the spark but I cannot say why it smouldered then for some time then burst into flame & I knew I wanted/needed/had to have one. Revolutions were advertising a cancelled order so I went for a test drive, ordered it & collected it 19 days later.
Beside it being the most fantastic fun to drive you can actually do stuff to it to make it 'better'. I'm sure this is a major factor with many folk. I suspect Q8 would agree as barely 3 days go by without him posting photos of the latest work he has undertaken. Less equals more fun.
I also quite like the look of it. No actually I think it looks brilliant

My parents were 3 wheeler drivers of the old school and I often thought of buying an old one. When the 5 Speed came along it was a no brainer (apart from convincing SWMBO). For me it is a unique blend of heritage and madness that delivers more fun and smiles per mile than I have experienced with anything else I have owned.

I am a car collector who likes to drive my cars. I see the present and
future collectibility.

I don't have a M3W (yet) but merely an F Super in restoration. However, the answers (so far) seem to me, to apply to any Morgan, 3 or 4 wheels.
