Ruud, you have a fantastic car, very nice looking and certainly adventurous to drive as well. A really rare SWB car in perfect condition.
So far I know the long wheel base 911 were designed since 1969 to make the drivability better for a bigger number of drivers - same story as today - find more customers with a big wallet and smaller driving skills.
The two pics below may help to show the lines of the earier SWB cars, an aesthetically very balanced design, compared with the cars built from 1969 on, which are not too bad in their own, but the earlier car has this certain lightness and is so charming.
As you can see the LWB is not only realized by just taking a longer hood. All relations of the redesign had to be considered.
I would also consider to look at the Japanese market. You can get nice and well maintained cars (911) over there although most are LHD. No Japanese offers a used car which is not ok, because that would definitely be a "loss of face"...in a country where you can leave your iPad outside a street cafe on the table and come back 10 minutes later your iPad still being there.
Here is just one example of a Japanese dealer. Prices for used cars are very interesting in comparison to almost sold out California. (No relation to them just found it in the net).
I love a 911. Have been into them for years but only lately have I gone back in time and got into earlier car.
A couple of years ago I bough completely rust free 73 2.4 with 45k. Very high spec but unfortunately I've spent so much money getting it up and running I now have to keep it a while to stand a chance of getting my dough back.
You know it makes sense!
