Daytona is awesome. Was on my list when I went for the Aero - we have similar tastes. Will be very interested to hear how you get on with it - so do at least post back here and let us know how you got on!

Great choice....you have me thinking. Not a great everyday car though if that's what you're looking for. Massive presence....respect

So I have just decided after a sleep less week on a Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe or what ever they call it. 6.6l V8 Roush 515HP in a car weighing 1300kg a bit of a hand full I think but hear goes. Have I done wrong? What would you have brought? Is there life after an Aero?
Take care Neil
Sorry to hear the news Neil, we'll miss you, but what a great choice of car. Did you buy the one that has been for sale in Penn for a lttle while? However, as someone else has said it does not mean that you have to abandon the site, as it is even rumouted that one of the most prolific posters here has also sold his Moggie. We are trying to keep it secret, so please don't tell anyone else. Anyway Neil, enjoy and do tell us all about it once you have driven it in anger. Aeroman

It was one a car from Penn but I know that mine is the 2nd one he has sold this year both the same colour. The old private plate was transferred in March so I dont think it had been there that long. The car had done just 2300 miles since first reg in 2005! The car has a 6590cc or 402 cubic inch Rouch engine, it is an original 1970 block with the rest new, it in meant to have 520 BHP and a top speed of 215MPH 0 to 60 is around the 3.5 second mark according to the paperwork. Fuel consumption is the thing to be aware of it ticks over at 1000 rpm but when driving on the road you only run at 2000-2500 so if in traffic you can almost see the tank emptying.
The car is very easy to drive for me, probably because I am fairly used to the Morgan and it is a very similar style. I think stearing is better in the Daytona but the clutch is very stiff. The car has fake side pipes, although the gasses are routed down the side the real exit is at the hidden rear. Not sure what you side pipe squadron will think of that. I am fairly happy the car is loud, very loud with side pipes would be far to loud. (my Morgan had rear pipes)
I was given a few big warnings when I picked the car up.
1 There is no door handle, or way of opening the door with out the key fob so don't shut the door with the engine running, as you have to smash the glass to get in.
2 Be very carefull in the damp 520 BHP is a lot for wet tires to take care of.
I have found a few things; less people take photos of it but more people stare than an aero. People give you a lot of room in the aero they don't in the Daytona. Porsche and BMW driver will race an Aero off the lights because the know nothing about cars, no one has even tried to race me they just cut you up at the next set of lights.
I am very happy with the car a good step after an aero but be warned it is very hard core you have to manually turn on the fuel pump and then wait to build pressure it will still take 2 or 3 goes be for it kicks in to life. It is a road race and drives like it, but it is waterproof and has a very big boot for a car in this camp.
more to come later
