Hi Folks

I think I may have posted my original enquiry on the wrong forum so here goes again.

I've got nearly 10 years out of the Contis fitted from new and was wondering if there's anything better out there?

Thanks in anticipation

New Elms recommended Toyo Proxes T1-R for my Plus 8 and as your Roadster is a very similar setup they should be good. If your looking for a grippy tyre then the Toyo's are a good choice and not too pricey. cheers

I'd second that, having had them on my +4.

It does worry me that anyone is driving a car with 10 year old tyres....worn or not!

This is a well argued article:
Rubber Death

Aldermog's tyres will be 5 years old in September. 4 of the 5 are original, one rear is new. I'll run them through to spring 2016 and then change the lot, despite the fact they have lots of tread.

To replace 5 tyres is about £600
To replace Aldermog is about £35,000

Not really difficult to defend the decision, is it? sherlock

+1 thumbs and as I have pointed out in previous threads on running Morgans and other cars on old tyres, tyres are date stamped and each manufacturer has a recommended life for the tyre usually 5-6 years, so if you have an accident in car with old out of date tyres you are risking the insurance company using this point to refuse payout!

Blimey Peter.....what tyres are you talking about? I paid less than £70 per tyre fitted on my Roadster!

I was being a bit OTT, you are right, between £60 and £90 a wheel fitted, depending on what you chose.
So £450 max the lot.

Jay - may I ask you what you bought?

As for letting my tyres get old, yes I'll put my hands up to that one. The Continentals I have on at the moment grip OK in the dry but haven't gone as hard as some XASs that I had on my old 4/4 which got so they wouldn't wear out. They were exciting in the wet and you never knew which way you were going to slide especially when the brakes were grabby.
