Not a good start to the weekend, Friday night around 10pm Mrs m and myself in the house when the smoke alarm went off, hall way full of smoke checking the house a fire in the office. Fire brigade called. End result a electrical fire the heat and smoke damage is devastating. We would not have know about the fire till later if it had not been for the smoke alarm and by then the fire would have damaged more of the house.

Very much in the dog house, could be up for rehoming

Glad you are both safe which is the main thing! Having dealt with a fire once I can only commiserate with the smoke and heat damage. Best of luck with the clean up.

Great to hear you are OK and indeed a timely reminder.

In Australia the 1st of April is the day they (should) all have their batteries changed.

Glad your alarm worked. I hope the damage isn't too much but at least you are both ok. It has kicked me into getting an alarm!

Relieved to read your OK, the damage will look terrible but thank goodness it's only 'stuff' that's damaged and not you and your family.

Anybody without an alarm, when fitting make sure you fit it correctly. The orientation is critical. I saw a demo a while back showing one placed on a bookshelf, standing on its edge. Completely ineffective when compared to one on a ceiling facing downwards.
