Is the compensator a Harley or S&S part (on Brit bikes we call it a "cush drive I think) or a dedicated Morgan part?

I posted a link to a US site ages ago. Problems with this type of compensator is old news across the pond.
Both the older style compensators Harley Standard and Screamin Eagle upgrade are just about capable of damping a 1450 cc or Harley tuned engine. It's a rather elegant but stupid design.
There was no chance it would ever cope with the S and S unit and I am at a bit of a loss how Morgan got bitten on this one. I had a very encouraging call from the new Morgan customer liaison team the other day. I did tell them that I thought perhaps that Morgan need to re-learn some of the engineering they got right in the past. I am sure they are on the right track now. I do agree however that the new compensator should be supplied as a warranty unit. I couldn't wait for that.

Very much a Morgan part. Developed from the Harley parts but arguably just as bad...
The 2014 Centa unit hopefully is much better and nothing so far to suggest otherwise.

Mine sounded exactly the same. It was the later unit with the grease nipple.
Seal had gone and it had lost all lube. I drove it home some ten miles. So say there was no damage to the unit apart from loss off lube. I'm having new style centa unit fitted this week. My concern was what damage does the gearbox sustain while the compensators are failing!!!
How much is the centra unit "upgrade"?

Between 560 and 700 ex vat. Dealer not sure exactly as depends on what seals etc they need. Should hear this week

Mine's coming up to the 3 month service and although the compensator isn't too bad it's definitely noisier than when new.
I might just bite the bullet and get the new unit sooner rather than later.

The rattling Compensator will probably get worse and worse - that seems to be the case anyway - continual deterioration:((
So yes I would go for the new unit - and whilst the warranty can help towards some of the cost?

I might just bite the bullet and get the new unit sooner rather than later.
Mine is going into B&C for the 3 month service in a couple of weeks time and I have asked them to change the noisy compensator. I expect the warranty to pick up the tab.

I'm with B&C as well so will ask Phil to see what he thinks. On delivery mine "clonked" every now and again - maybe once every 20-30 seconds. Now it's probably once every 5 seconds so getting worse. However better news on the bevel box - at the risk of tempting fate this was OK on delivery and is still pretty quiet.
