Caution - Check prices first - the insurance excess can be more than the straight cost as these screens are very flat and very basic. The owner/operator screen repairers are very competitive on price and usually good on quality!
Best recommendations come from small garages who use these guys regularly for MOT screen changes.
So speaks a black fingernail moneysaver.

Lots of good advice so far, i had mine fitted by Melvyn Rutter who stocked the blanks, so your local dealer may have stock?. As far as tinted glass goes it is probably not available from Morgan dealers and is not likely to be very effective in reducing glare, especially the low sunlight at this time of year.
My solution is a peak cap and transition sunglasses, pull the peak down and it works like a visor.

Seconded the idea of wear a peaked cap (or similar visor). A tinted screen to effectively remove the glare will not be legal and there are folk in the trade who will sell you an illegal screen!

Tmg513. I have tried for several hours not to respond to your "advice" on this thread. But I have to. It seems to me you are advocating total dishonesty and actual fraud, which I find unacceptable on this forum. No doubt you condemn benefit cheats etc. But what you are proposing another tm er should do seems to me to be exactly equal to that. Our insurance premiums rise inexorably because of acts such as you advise and even without that what you suggest looks to me like plain and simple dishonesty, which I believe has no place on a gentleman's forum like this. I think you should apologise and withdraw the comment. Sorry to sound so high handed but that's how I feel about it.

I think the moral dilemma is avoided. Paul said he has already removed the glass screen from the frame. That might be difficult to explain to the Autoglass fitter as an 'accident'

Thanks for all the pearls of wisdom. Very helpful. I rang Life's this morning and they suggested I contact a local windscreen supplier who could probably make a screen to size. This I did and they can. Laminated but not tinted sadly. I'm not sure why a tinted screen would not help as most cars come with them as standard today. I'm not going to play the insurance card as it's dishonest in my eyes to say something that is not true. Will let you know how I get on once I fit the new screen to the car. Thanks again everyone. And Autoglass' high prices are helping push up the price of insurance...

The thought of letting Autoglass anywhere near a Morgan doesn't bear thinking about!

I'd let them put their sealent stuff into a chip, that is about it.

As more and more cars get "through screen sensors" that need re-calibrating after a new screen is fitted Autoglass will be out of a job as only dealers with the right software/computer can do this.
Can't see Autoglass equipping their vans with the hardware needed and then paying the makers for software licences to do this. It isn't a simple OBD job....
