Waldemar - I explored that option , but on my right hand drive car I have factory fitted electrical 'things' behind that panel , behind the plastic dash behind the leather top.
I dont know what these electrics are - I suspect its the Immobiliser unit but not sure.
Did yours have anything behind there before the mod , or did your dealer fit it from new ?

Have tried to see what lies behind the dashboard, but without borrowing a gastroscope I´m not sure how.

Making a hole is one thing, but will I also have to build a compartment (floor and walls)? What did they do, apart from drilling and cutting?

When I got my car, it was installed, so I have no idea what it looked before. The compartment is about 8 to 10 cm deep, totally closed and when I open the front cover over the batterie etc., you see nothing but the original panel sheet, so there must be some space between the dashboard and this panel sheet. there is a simple fastbutton to open and close.

Nippymog , I cut a hole in my right hand drive one , there were no electrics behind it , but I don't have an immobiliser .

Its not where mine lives!

It is the immobiliser, well it is on my car. It can be easily unbolted and refitted in another location as there is plenty of spare wire. I fitted a glove box and made the structure from 1.5mm plasticard. Use the redundant steering mount as securing point for the box and get better access for installation by removing the front bulkhead panel, held on by woodscrews and master cyliders mounts. It's quite a lot of work and fabrication but gives a useful hidden storage.

Mine is tucked down low and central under the fuse box. Or at least that is what i think the black box is.

Early on, I found it difficult to hit the horn switch. Now I have fitted a Max Clifford horn extension. It's only a little thing but it gets the job done.

I am guessing from the bonnet side removing the bulkhead panels ?
