Checking over Aldermog I noticed some frayed wires sticking out from the throttle cable where the inner enters the outer.

I cut the broken bits off so they couldn't stick and called Williams: they had a spare but the workshop is fully booked until mid May. I had to go there to pick up the new side screen panels.

Lawrie talked me through the fitting, the throttle body end is simple but getting the other end through the bulkhead and to the throttle looks fun.

Has anyone here done this? There isn't a big hurry, the cable still has 50% of its strands.... But I should do it as a car with a broken throttle cable isn't a lot of use!

Easy to do but it will test your eye sight and flexibility of your back when you access the throttle pedal end.

Mine frayed as yours has done but snapped at the other end. Replacement is a bit awkward as you're head first in the footwell trying to re-attach the cable to the accelerator pedal.

If you're a BFG you'll find it a struggle; if toned and lithesome you'll be OK laugh2.

Mine was designed to fail at the bulkhead end owing to the angle of the sleeve that goes through the bulkhead which needs to be realigned to the angle of the cable.

Good luck in fitting it Peter! It's obviously not a five minute job as I'm sure Williams would have fitted you in!

Have you any idea how much play there should be in the cable? Mine is quite loose at the quadrant end.

Peter another point in favour of the aero is its wireless throttle system so no cable to replace.

Guys, would it make sense to remove the throttle pedal? I have only ever done one and that was back in 2002 but then it was just 2 nuts and bolts from memory, just thinking with the pedal in the foot well and taking all the slack from the cable you might get it back towards you a few inches which might make the job easier, hook the inner to the pedal and refit before making the connection at the air mass meter/throttle body housing end? Just a thought?

Think you are right: I was plannng to take the organ pedal off and the steering column cover off. Then I should be able to see how it all fixes.
Start at the pedal end and then do the throttle body end.

Take the organ pedal off - just the pivot bolt - you'll need an allen key and spanner.
Then you can access the pedal proper. It's possible to get the cable off without removing the pedal, but you'll get back ache.
As Ken has said, the crucial point is to align the top of the pedal with the hole, so you may have to get the pedal off to bend it. If the cable isn't aligned perfectly with the hole it will fray. The other end is a piece of cake.
Also remember that frayed throttle cables can jam unexpectedly, so bear that in mind.
