Interesting. Will have to look into it again. No new rule here this year, as far as I know.

Not necessary to wear a helmet in a M3W, but I usually do, at least at higher speeds.

Not the sort of thing you'd notice to be honest. If Sweden is anything like the UK, your existing rights will be protected so not an issue to most drivers other than the very newest.

As far as you are concerned, no change.

Deleting part of entitlement is a major issue on renewal of Licences. A few of my Biker pals had their Bike categories dropped - panic!!Be sure to check your categories carefully when u get a new licence/renew!!

The situation with New Licences for an M3W/any Trike - including a 30s Morgan, is worse than u might think. The bike licence Laws have changed significantly - and I understand that you would now need to have a full bike licence - AND be 25 or over!!!

I seem to recall a string of threads on this last year - so do not want to go into chapter and verse all over again!

BTW the MTWC are successfully lobbying to have this Licence Law altered.

I don't think the MTWC claim credit, I don't and was the one that pointed it out to them. The FHBVC do claim credit - but they can get on their bike as they did not reply at all nicely when I pointed the issue out to them.

The permutations get mind boggling tho - so IF you passed your car test b4 19.1.13 and are say 17-21 you need a full bike licence?

Apart from the issue of personal inconvenience, there is a safety issue.

It would be possible to get, eventually a full bike licence, and never have driven/ridden anything with a steering wheel and get straight into a Morgan three wheeler and drive off. I'm well aware a three wheeler without a reverse gear could be driven at 16 on a bike licence in the dim and distant, but traffic is heavier now. You cannot now drive a Morgan on 'L' plates either.

Had there been a real safety issue with the driving of a three wheeler at a young age, the insurance cost would have been high. It wasn't, and owners of vintage Morgans had no problem in arranging cover for their offspring at 17.

Unless it has recently changed an M3W requires a bike licence in Italy with helmets obbligatory.

That it is shame as I think wearing a helmet in the 3W spoils the overall experience, it does for me.

You have to laugh at the sheer bureaucracy of it all, or you'd go mad very quickly.

My youngest trains new motorcyclists on the compulsory basic training or CBT that they have to complete before riding on the road. The anomaly is that at 17yrs of age, you can only drive with an experienced driver alongside you until test passed. At a year younger 16yrs, you can half a morning riding around a tennis court and an hour wobbling around the road before riding off home with no-one and no Highway Code input.

What a crazy world, eh?
