Yes Deano...I wholeheartedly agree that is certainly one reasonable way to look at this issue doh

However, I understand that MMC's view is that the warranty covers the original compensator that came with the car - and from what others have reported, MMC appears to be willing to replace the old metal bushed compensators three or four times on the same car if needed. Seems penny wise and pound foolish to me...

My concern with upgrading to the new Centa unit is that the install is an 8 - 14 hr job, that probably involves essentially re-assembling the entire drivetrain. I suspect that an involved job like this at a dealer runs the risk of introducing new rattles and other niggles. The thread on owners who have installed the new Centa units http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/198623/How_s_your_Centa_compensator#Post198623 suggests that this may be the case - Big rattle gone, new little rattles added.

I'm going to sleep on this one for a few days...

Ok I think this would be my approach.

Write to the MD of Morgan stating your problem and that you believe it's not fit for purpose for the reasonable life of the car. Add that you will accept there offer to replace the compensator under warranty but if it fails again or causes secondary failures to other components, even outside of the warranty, then you will hold them responsible.

Well, as an update, the mystery has been solved. The rattle was NOT the compensator, instead it was the bevel box itself , which was starved for lubrication due to the infamous "black goo" created by the oil additive that Morgan used briefly in 2013. I changed and flushed the bevel box oil, got the "goo" out, and the rattle has completely, utterly disappeared!

Read more about the black goo here: http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/215399/1

It always seemed like the rattle emanated from the bevel box when I drove with the center console removed...the idea that it was the compensator just didn't sound right...Looks like I won't be shelling out for the Centa compensator just yet!

Many thanks to all TMers who weighed in!
