I am sad they made the grill and tail lamps SO like the DB given the rest of the overall lines could have stood on their own.

I hope they make it to 20 cars and 5 years. Feels a little like they will struggle at that price. If I had the money I would buy the real thing and get it fully restored. (Some of the parts in the XJ go back almost to the same era !)

To my eyes the front has a whiff of the Ford retro pastiche Thunderbird.

Yes it does.

My guess it that DB (or their lawyers) decided to steer clear of very recognisable brand design cues such as the AM front grille shape in order to avoid litigation over 'passing off'. Leaves the front looking distinctly odd. Thin line though - they have kept the side strakes. No doubt the lawyers would argue that these are stylistically quite different to the original.

Ruud. Your photo reminds us all that we need to know. The so called David Brown is just crude pastiche. Not for me at any price.

Your DB5 on the other hand....yum yum.

cheers

I don't hate it but I do agree that at that price point I'd rather have the real thing and make it good as new. The front end is a bit strange as mentioned above, the wheels are too small and the tail lights look cheap.

I also don't like the illusion of authenticity in the way they have named it the David Brown "special". If I was Aston Martin I'd be calling my lawyer.

If you want a nice modern jag then buy an F Type or an Eagle E Type. Don't buy an XKR pretending to be an Aston.

Time to get your chequebooks out? Add £99k VAT - It's a lot of money for what it is..

The hand-built British sportscar order book is open. Founder and CEO, David Brown said, “I am delighted to announce that the price for Speedback GT will be £495,000, excluding local taxes. The finished cars are the product of thousands of hours of highly skilled, hand-built craftsmanship, and production will be limited to 100 vehicles.

What would you buy if you had £594,000 lying around?
